Robert Anthony De Niro Jr. is an American actor who was born on August 17th, 1943 in the Manhattan borough of New York City in the United States of America.

De Niro was born to Robert De Niro Sr. and Virginia Admiral. His parents when he was just two years old after his father openly announced that he was gay.

He was raised by his mother in the Greenwich Village and Little Italy neighborhoods of Manhattan. His mother was raised Presbyterian but became an atheist as an adult, while his father had been a lapsed Catholic since the age of 12.

Through the sixth grade, De Niro went to PS 41, a public primary school in Manhattan. At the age of 10, he made his theatrical debut at school as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz, following the start of his acting training at the Dramatic Workshop.

He later attended the upper school of the Little Red School House, Elisabeth Irwin High School, for the seventh and eighth grades. He was then admitted to the High School of Music and Art for the ninth grade, but he only spent a brief time there before transferring to IS 71, Charles Evans Hughes Junior High School, a public junior high school. De Niro attended McBurney School and Rhodes Preparatory School for his high school education.

He discovered acting as a way to overcome his shyness and developed a passion for movies, so he quit high school at 16 to pursue acting.

At HB Studio and Lee Strasberg’s Actors Studio, he pursued his acting education. De Niro also pursued a degree from the Stella Adler Conservatory, where he was introduced to the Stanislavski methods.

De Niro was influenced by the acting of Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, James Dean, Greta Garbo, Geraldine Page, and Kim Stanley when he was a young actor.

De Niro is regarded as one of the best actors of his generation and is most known for his work with Martin Scorsese. Numerous honors, including two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award have been bestowed upon De Niro.

De Niro got the Kennedy Center Honor in 2009, and in 2016, U.S. President Barack Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. At the HB Studio, Stella Adler Conservatory, and Lee Strasberg’s Actors Studio, De Niro pursued his acting education.

His first significant appearance was in Greetings (1968), and he initially came to public attention in the sports drama Bang the Drum Slowly, where he played a baseball player (1973).

Mean Streets, directed by Martin Scorsese in 1973, featured De Niro as “Johnny Boy,” a small-time criminal. His portrayal of a teenage Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s crime saga The Godfather Part II (1974), which won De Niro an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, launched him into stardom.

He then starred in This Boy’s Life (1993) and directed his first feature film with 1993’s A Bronx Tale. His other critical successes include Heat (1995) and Casino (1995).
