Martin Short wife-Canadian actor, comedian, and writer, Martin Hayter Short was born on March 26, 1950, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Short was born to Olive Grace and Charles Patrick Short. He shares the same parents as his siblings; David, Michael, Brian, and his sister, Nora.

Short attended Westdale Secondary School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from McMaster University in 1971.

Michael, his brother who also worked at Second City Television (SCTV), is a comedy writer who has been nominated for an Emmy Award for creating comedic sketches 17 times and has won the award three times.

Martin Short career

Short is known for his work on the television programs SCTV and Saturday Night Live. Short created the characters Jiminy Glick and Ed Grimley.

Additionally, he appeared in the comedies The Morning Show (2019), Maya & Marty (2016, a variety series), and Mulaney (2014–2015). He has also had a successful theatre career, including in Broadway performances of Neil Simon’s musicals Little Me (1998–1999) and The Goodbye Girl (1993).

He was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for the latter performance and for the former. Three Amigos (1986), Innerspace (1987), Three Fugitives (1989), Father of the Bride (1991), Captain Ron (1992), Clifford (1994), Mars Attacks! (1996), Jungle 2 Jungle (1997), and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006) are just a few of the comedic movies in which he has acted.

The Pebble and the Penguin (1995), The Prince of Egypt (1998), Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (2001), Treasure Planet (2002), 101 Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure (2003), The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008), Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (2012), Frankenweenie (2013), and The Wind Rises (2013) are just a few of the movies for which Short did voice work.

2015 saw the beginning of Short’s joint national tour with Steve Martin. For their Netflix original special An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life, which was released in 2018, they were nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as a Directors Guild of America Award.

He has been with Martin and Selena Gomez in the Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building since 2021.

He has received nominations for the Critics’ Choice Television Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Golden Globe Award, and the Primetime Emmy Award for his portrayal.

He has won several honors, including a Tony Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and more. 2019 saw Short recognized as an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Short participated in a Regis Philbin-hosted edition of Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in 2001 and took home $32,000 for his charity, Loyola High School.

At a 2011 banquet hosted by the organization, Short collected a “Courage Award” on behalf of his deceased wife. Short has actively advocated for the Women’s Research Cancer Fund.

Additionally, Short is a supporter of the Canadian organization Artists Against Racism. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League are the club that he supports most passionately.
