Johnny Carson was an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer. He is best known as the host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

At age 12, he started performing magic tricks for his family. Johnny served in the military when he joined the United States Navy in 1943 and was trained in the V-12 Navy College Training Program at Columbia University. He was enlisted and was posted on USS Pennsylvania during World War 2, where he served as a communications officer, decoding encrypted messages.

He took advantage of the educational opportunities in the Navy and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and Speech from the University of Nebraska in 1949. He wrote his thesis on ‘How to Write Comedian Jokes,’ which helped him graduate in three years.

Carson was a family man. He was married to Alexis Maas. The couple enjoyed a great marriage and had three children; Cory Carson, Kit Carson and Richard Carson.

For his good works and dedication, he received six Emmy Awards, the Governor’s Award, and a 1985 Peabody Award. He was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1987. Carson was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992 and he received a Kennedy Center Honor in 1993.
