When she was three, she began taking dance lessons at Premiere Dance Studio in Seymour, Tennessee, and she stopped ten years later. She was a member of the church and school choirs.

She attended Knoxville Central High School, Centennial High School in Franklin, Tennessee, and Lipscomb University for two years before pursuing a musical career.

She signed a contract with Black River Entertainment when she was 19 years old. She released her debut single “Love Me Like You Mean It” in late 2014, and it debuted on the Country Airplay chart in October 2014. In November, she released a self-titled extended play for the label.

She performed “Love Me Like You Mean It” for the first time at the Grand Ole Opry on February 14, 2015. Black River released Ballerini’s debut album, The First Time, on May 19, 2015.

In early 2017, Ballerini was ranked second on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 – Music list. In 2017, Ballerini received two Academy of Country Music Award nominations: Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year for “Peter Pan.”

The album’s second single, “I Hate Love Songs,” was released in March. In September 2018, she announced the release of a deluxe edition of the album with four new tracks.

In a July 2019 Instagram post, Ballerini confirmed the completion of her third studio album. Ballerini released “Homecoming Queen?” as the first single from her upcoming third album on September 6, 2019.

Ballerini’s song debuted at number 22 on the Country Airplay chart, making it her highest chart debut to date.

Ballerini temporarily replaced Kelly Clarkson as a coach on The Voice Season 20 in 2021. She co-hosted the 2021 CMT Music Awards with Kane Brown and won CMT Performance of the Year.

In May, she was announced as the opening act for the Jonas Brothers’ Remember This tour, which kicked off in August.

Ballerini announced in March 2022 that “Heartfirst” would be released on April 8, 2022. Subject to Change is her fourth studio album, and this song is the first single from it.

The song’s music video premiered on July 7, 2022. The second single, “Love is a Cowboy,” was released on July 15, 2022, along with the official music video.

“You’re Drunk, Go Home,” a collaboration with Kelly Clarkson and Carly Pearce, appears on the album. The album will be available on September 23, 2022.

“Heartfirst” was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in November 2022.

Ballerini has been influenced by artists from both pop and country music. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, NSYNC, and Hilary Duff are among the early artists who influenced Ballerini.

It wasn’t until Ballerini heard Keith Urban’s “Stupid Boy” that she decided to go deeper into country music, listening to albums by Taylor Swift, Sugarland, and the Dixie Chicks.

She is the only child of her parents. Kelsea Ballerini grew up in a small town in Tennessee, and was raised by her mother, who was a single parent.
